What does it mean to be a true cast away? Surrounded by nothing but endless shades of turquoise. The subtle sound of the Indian Ocean's waves with the only footprints on the untouched shore being my own. Far from the chaos of civilization, I had now discovered a profound beauty in the simplicity of existence. This little sandbank was the only safe refuge for 10,000m with only remnants of old coral and ocean shells making me wonder if anyone had actually ever stepped foot on this tiny island. As I was dropped off by boat in the darker blue water, I had to swim to the island with my camera gear in a bag above my head before setting up. Usually I would launch my drone from a boat, however being so isolated in the middle of the ocean and away from any boats or help, launching my drone from the sand was the only option to ensure a safe return. As I flew out, It really revealed the grand scale of just how isolated I was from any forms of life other than nature - creating the feeling of being a true castaway. It made me realise just how beautiful life can be having absolutely nothing but yourself and the earth beneath you. Year 2023 6348 × 7763
