Daperot is the inventor of the famous Bananape effect. It's based on years of observation and study. It's centered around two groundbreaking theories. First, a good, for example, a Banana purchased by an ape will align with the ape's sense of identity, and, as a result, they will complement each other. Second, the introduction of a new possession that deviates from the ape's current complementary goods, can result in a process of spiraling consumption. Daperot has first-hand experience. Some time ago, he came across a remote jungle camp of British scientists, where he found a fancy golden monocle. Initially pleased with his elegant accessory, he quickly became dissatisfied. Compared to his golden monocle, the rest of his possessions (half a coconut, two sticks, and his favorite stone) began to seem tawdry. They just didn't live up to the style of his new monocles. Hence, he opted for a makeover. He went ape-crazy, bought a bunch of expensive artwork, a mink fur coat, several late 17th-century antique armchairs, and he started taking classes in French. He had become a slave to his new monocle, which led him to the insight: "la pauvreté a ses franchises; l’opulence a sa gêne."
