Mortermir is a "what," and not a "who" - at least, not anymore. Once upon a time, the deep-space vessel Pegasus encountered an invisible anomaly near a black hole, and her crew made the fatal decision to approach. Sucked into its event horizon, the Pegasus crew was devoured by the anomaly... but not entirely. Absorbed and transformed by its foreign energy, the minds of its six crew members - Monty, Roberto, Terry, Michelle, Iris, and its A.I computer R-9 - were merged together into one shifting and blended consciousness over 1000 years.
