In the early 1900s, the work of openly queer artists began to slowly percolate out of Europe. However, near the end of his life, Charles appeared to retreat slightly. His pieces became more abstract and less frequent as if he held more emotions in reserve. In Daniel, we see a close-up of a man he lusts for, with a focus on his mouth. The inscription implies they were lovers of some dimension.
