“whY” is the second artwork out of five for the YHVH collection. This collection is connected through the story of every Individual painting. In this painting we see a divine intervention showcased as a scene from an animated movie. Even thought this is a singular frame, the way it’s portrayed helps the viewer imagine what could have happened before and after this scene. The scene shows Jesus cleaning the sins out of a person who is humbled before him. The subtitle placed reads “I told you that I would give you everything that you need. Why do you still sin? “. These words are encouraging the viewer to trust in God and to leave their own desires behind. What is it that is so valuable that we don’t want to let go of? Is it something pure or are we just addicted to things which can end up controlling us? Maybe we should put our trust in God and be truly free? The way the message is presented here is direct and it won’t get to everyone. To justify Jesus saying this to the person kneeling in front of him, I would argue that he would know the right thing to do to get to every person that searches for him, and that these particular words are the words that meant the most to the person in the painting.
