描述
The COSMOGRAM series is a modern exploration of a popular form of collection in the 16th century known as « cabinet of curiosities » ( Cabinet De Curiosités, Wunderkammer ). The cabinet of curiosities was not only a personal hobby or a display of wealth, but it was also a philosophical statement about the nature of knowledge, curiosity, and the human condition.
The historical cabinet , conceptually , aimed to map all known creation, structuring inventories as spatial narratives, a microscopic proxy for the universe. It was typically comprised of naturalia ( natural specimens ), and artificiala (products of artifice). It contained objects that were both beautiful and grotesque, natural and human-made, old and new.
In this theater of the world, collectors arranged materials in ways that allowed them to traverse vast metaphorical distances of time and space.
COSMOGRAM is a modern panopticon allowing the viewer to inhabit multiple worlds in parallel, both as center of the metaphorical universe , as well as as from a contemplative position.
Where the original 16th century cabinet of curiosities aimed to demystify the world, « COSMOGRAM » , its modern take, wants to re-mystify it.
