Death must be involved in order for a painting to come to life. I often tend to destroy my work in time, as an exercise of impermanence. This oil painting was originally without the figure. Outside the window, is a violent storm. The painting was 36x48 inches large. However, I decided to destroy the painting as my love for it had died. All I had to show for my work was an image of what once was. I didn't want to waste the image that I had made so I brought it into procreate. It was here, a year later, that I drew the figure coming out of the backroom. Now, it has life again.
