After the wisdom tooth extraction
I did not know what to do with them.
They are tiny lifeless rocks out of flesh,
then they catch the light, enameled little creatures.
How strange to hold a part of me in my hand, a black hole left behind.
I have chosen one to exceed me — to be the first of us to go to space.
In 2019, the artist sent her tooth to outer space, carried by a crystalline robotic sculpture, the tooth becomes a newborn entity in space. The project Living Distance and its VR film are later presented in Sundance Film Festival 2020.
This artwork is part of SuperRare's #TheGoldStandard exhibition featuring artists of Asian American Pacific Islander heritage in celebration of AAPI month.
