New Year’s Eve has always been something my family celebrated together, and I fondly cherish the moments we get to share with each other as we welcome the New Year.

In 2016, I was unable to return home for the holidays and as the days got colder and my social media feed filled up with posts from my friends returning back to their homes, I decided to take it upon myself to turn this setback into an opportunity to do something that’s been on my bucket list for a really long time - to watch the ball drop at midnight in Times Square.

This experience had fascinated me for many years, as growing up in Thailand, the New York midnight fell at noon on the 1st. I remember tuning in at lunch, year after year, to witness the spectacle and here, I finally found a way to turn the lemon life threw at me into this lemonade.

Standing and waiting in Times Square for over 18 hours on that cold winter day, fueled only by the energy of the crowd surrounding me, all for this moment, and it was worth it.
