A tribute to Vermeer’s “Girl with turban”.
I was always fascinated by Flemish art, the choice of painting from the dark towards the light with figures “emerging” to life, an aesthetic of sublimation, elegance and grace, with a smudge of austerity.
I consider this visual language as the metaphor of an inner movement from the shadows toward the light, establishing the subject on the path of self realization.
My interpretation is enriched by Caribbean and African influences, adding color and frivolous shapes to the Flemish aesthetics.
