Describe your room 🚀 In the near future, human lifespans are indefinitely extended by the process of resetting one’s biological age at will using a newly invented DNA splicing technology. As a result, population growth is the global biggest threat to humanity and the birth of new children is heavily regulated. Only a few thousand children are allowed to be born globally each year through a strictly controlled voucher program. These birth vouchers are considered a status symbol and, though the distribution of the vouchers is a nominally a fair and random process, in practice, they go primarily to only the wealthiest and most powerful people on the planet. Any child born outside of this voucher system is denied access to the DNA splicing technology that allows the rest of the world to live indefinitely. This serves to discourage & punish those who choose to have a child without a voucher (and it also ensures that any child born without a voucher will not tax the world’s resources beyond their natural lifespan). Our main character is a child born outside of this system, destined to age & die in a world of functional immortality.
