Mairead was born to a humble family of sheep farmers in the foothills of the Mountains of Galicia. From a young age, she was fascinated by the magical creatures that lived in the woods near her home. When she was thirteen, she stumbled upon a group of magicians performing dark rituals in the forest. From that day forward, she knew she had to become a Blood Mage like them. She spent the next few years studying under the tutelage of the same magicians who initially horrified her. They taught her how to harness the power of blood magic and use it for her own wicked ends. Eventually, Mairead became one of the most powerful Blood Mages in all of Galicia. During one of her dark rituals, Mairead summoned a demon who granted her a wish in exchange for her soul. Mairead wished for the power to control any creature with blood coursing through its veins. The demon kept its end of the bargain and gave her this power. With this new found power, Mairead began exacting revenge upon those who had wronged her throughout her life. She would slaughter entire villages if even one person had slighted her. No one was safe from her wrath. One day, Mairead's path of destruction led her to a small town in southern Galicia. This town was home to a group of noble knights who had defeated several other Blood Mages in battle. When they saw Mairead slaughtering innocents with impunity, they vowed to put an end to her reign of terror. The knights confronted Mairead and they fought an epic battle. Though they were skilled warriors, they were no match for Mairead's blood magic. However, before she could deliver the final blow, one of the knights managed to wounding her with his sword. This distraction allowed his comrades to get away while he held off Mairead long enough for them escape. mortally Though gravely wounded, Mairead was not dead yet. The demon inside of her craved more blood and would not let her rest until she had killed every last person in that town - which she did.. In doing so, she unknowingly provided fodder for legend and story which would be spun about her for centuries to come..
