Applause is about craving for approval and praise, for external validation.
This video is part of the series Black Waters and Other Stories, consisting of 8 NFTs, which all combine the recordings of hands with images of water. Stylistically it is a video-collage, created by layering recorded moving images.
Nataša Prosenc Stearns is a Slovenian-born Los Angeles-based media artist, whose work ranges from single and multi-channel videos, video installations, short and feature films, video objects, prints, to NFTs.
She graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana. During her studies she began making single channel video pieces, gradually expanding her practice to include video installations in which the space of the artwork grew to be integral. She moved to Los Angeles on a Fulbright Grant for her MFA at California Institute of the Arts. Nataša has been exhibiting internationally in venues such as Venice Biennale, Douloun Museum of Art in Shanghai, ARCO Fair Madrid, Tel Aviv Museum of Art, Ljubljana Museum of Modern Art, Slovenia, and in numerous galleries and festivals.
Her work walks the line between figurative and abstract and reflects the world through a nature-centred prism, where everything and everybody is connected and coexists with equal significance. The videos integrate the human figure with nature and with man-made worlds, suggesting we are not separate from the environment, but we are the environment.
