描述
In India's Lahaul and Spiti region, Dhankar Gompa is both a village and a Buddhist temple known as a Gompa. It is situated at an elevation of 3,894 metres (12,774 feet). One of the world's most beautiful gompa settings, the complex is perched on a 300-meter-high ridge overlooking the confluence of the Spiti and Pin rivers. Kar or khar refers to an ancient fortification, which is called a dhang (cliff). Dhangkar denotes a fort perched on a cliff.
Located between the cities of Kaza and Tabo, this monastery can be seen atop Dhankar Village. The Spiti-Pin river confluence is visible from the Dhankar complex. The Manirang peak was playing hide and seek with the clouds as we drove to the monastery. When we arrived at the monastery, we discovered a few good spots to shoot photos of the gompa.
