描述
The Castle of Guimarães (Portuguese: Castelo de Guimarães), is the main medieval castle in the northern region of Portugal. This majestic castle is located over a hill in the historic center of Guimarães. It was built in the 10th century to defend the monastery from attacks of the Moors and the Normans, as well as to present a declaration of power before other feudal lords. It is believed that this was the place where Dom Afonso Henriques was born, the first king of Portugal.
