Portuguese concept artist Freak Jesus originally cultivated his digital art practice in parallel with a professional career in engineering, segueing into graphic design as a way of tapping into his creative abilities. Inspired by the punk rock scene in his native city of Porto, Northern Portugal, his digital collages draw from vintage photographic elements, superimposed with abstract, painterly layers of colour and graffiti, as well as animation and sound design. Infused with his emotional sensibility, Freak Jesus’ fearless use of colour, bold messaging and pop-art sensibility have become his cohesive visual signature. Drawing inspiration from key figures in the history of popular culture – naming a series of his works the “27 Club” Collection, after late rock legends including Jim Morrison, Jimmy Hendrix and Kurt Cobain, whose lives ended tragically at the age of 27 – Freak Jesus has rapidly gained recognition as an emerging talent in the digital art space. 29/60
