Between appointments in a suburb of Little Rock, Arkansas, my assigned companion and I had stopped for gas. I rolled down the car window and took this shot from the passenger seat of our car while I was serving as a full-time volunteer missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints ("The Mormons").
Just a few weeks earlier, I'd been gifted the camera I used to take this photograph by a person who kindly invited us into his home to teach our message. It happened to be near my birthday, and I considered his act of generosity something of a "birthday present" from God, who knew more than anyone how much I missed photography on my 2-year assignment.
The light, shadows, and colors of early spring in Little Rock were showcased beautifully on this dated gas station. It feels like one of my truest nods to William Eggleston.
