描述
"Ka mua ka muri" is a well known Māori whakataukī that translates to "walking backwards into the future" - the work provides notions of time and tradition - following the footsteps of our tūpuna (ancestors) whilst navigating the times of the present as we live into the future - we are both descendants and ancestors, with obligations to both, as well as the ever changing world around us.
The aesthetic draws on customary Māori kowhaiwhai and references the impact of digital technology, the current trends within popular culture and social media, and their impact on Te Ao Māori (the Māori world).
