His earliest days as a popular commercial and (less successful) fine Artist in New York city in the early 1950s, demonstrate an accomplished creator whose output was as vast and focused as it was charming and appealing; often fueled by his obsession with sugary treats, accessories and pets. Many an academic and historian has explored what events in his early years led to the formation of his distinct personal style and enormous success.
