In Ancient Rome, the sport of surfring was born out of necessity and competition among the citizens. As Roman culture developed over time, so did their need to stay active and entertained. The Romans were known for being great engineers and builders, but they also had a passionate love affair with water sports.
The original form of surfing involved two teams competing against each other by riding waves into shore on boards made from painted wood. Over time, it evolved into what we now know as the modern day Roman Surf League.
