Red Shoes is a reinterpretation and appreciation of historical paintings through a modern lens with digital tools (Procreate).
The Red Shoes is a cautionary tale about the dangers of succumbing to the temptations of desire: a young woman receives a pair of red shoes from a mysterious shoemaker. The shoes begin to control her movements, in desperation, she seeks help from an executioner who cuts off her feet.
Seen: Sailor suit, peak fashion, late 1800’s for young men - John Singer Sargent earlier portrait of Jacques Barenton, 1883, wore a suit of black rather than traditional sailor navy blue.
