Digital Fabric Swatch for Fear and Loathing II, 2023 Fear and Loathing II is a reinterpretation and appreciation of historical paintings through a modern lens with digital tools (Procreate). Fear and Loathing is a digital painting (triptych, 3/3) that is inspired by The Field of the Cloth of Gold, 1520. The Field of the Cloth and Gold was a historic event between King Henry VII of England and King Francis I of France. The purpose of the event was to strengthen the bond between the two kingdoms and to display their wealth and power to the rest of Europe. The event lasted two weeks and was filled with grand feasts, jousting tournaments. Seen: Jodhpurs, tight-fitting trousers to the ankle, worn primarily for horse riding. Women began wearing jodhpurs during the 1920’s, shifting from riding side saddle to riding astride. Seen: The three knots of the Franciscan chord; “Many groups of pious individuals adopt the convention of wearing a knotted cord in recognition of the ropes that bound the [Catholic biblical] Jesus and as a reminder of their commitment.” Giovanni di Pietro di Bernardone, Francis of Assisi, was an Italian mystic, poet and Catholic friar who founded the religious order of the Franciscans. He lead a Christian life of poverty as a beggar and preacher.
