About the image: Every morning in Cappadocia, hundreds of hot air balloons rise up into the sky. Seeing these balloons, some only a small dot on the horizon, others looming large right next to me, has always made me feel a sense of childlike wonder. Driving towards a location shoot one early winter morning, I saw a group of balloons returning from their rides. I had to pull over by the side of the road, so magical was the scene with the patchwork of snow, the misty morning air, and the iconic fairy chimneys of Cappadocia barely visible in the distance.

About the collection: Shot across eight countries in the span of six years, the “Solitary Journeys” collection blurs the lines between street photography, documentary photography, travel photography, and art. Every photograph represents a relationship between movement and stillness and explores the transience of human experience, showing moments that may have otherwise gone unnoticed in the hustle of our daily lives.
About the artist: Yulia Denisyuk is an award-winning travel photographer and writer working on assignments with various publications around the world. For past work, she’s shared a roof with nomads in Mongolia and documented Iznik tile artisans in Turkey.
