“The clearest way into the Universe is through a forest wilderness.” - J. Muir
The Muir Woods National Monument is named after John Muir, a Scottish-American philosopher, naturalist, and preservation advocate, whose thinking and writings earned him the moniker “the father of the National Parks''. Muir was the primary founder and president of the Sierra Club, an ecological preservation group ultimately responsible for helping to establish what would become the National Parks system.
