Referring to Manzoni's "Artist's Shit" is often interpreted as a critique of the art market and the arbitrary nature of artistic value.
By packaging and selling his excrement, Manzoni was challenging what constitutes "art" and calling into question the criteria by which particular works are deemed valuable.
