Terra Nova photographical archives invites you to the ethereal beauty of Lençóis Maranhenses, Brazil. Where vast expanses of white sand dunes meet vibrant emerald lagoons. Sculpted over a millennia, the landscape shows the history of the Amazon's rivers carving life through the sands of time. As the rivers flow from the forest depths to the raging sea, they breathe life into this desert oasis.
The story of Lara, Lady of the Lake, in Brazilian folklore is a captivating tale woven of beauty, betrayal, and transformation.
Once upon a time, she was a fierce Amazonian warrior, renowned for her courage, kindness, and unmatched strength. Her beauty was admired, and she was cherished by her father and tribe. But jealousy stirred in the hearts of her brothers, who conspired to kill her. In self-defense, Iara's skill as a warrior led her to slay them. Yet, the tragedy did not end with their deaths. Believing her actions were unjust, her father and tribe turned against her and drowned her in the river.
But Lara's story did not end within the current. Transformed by the waters, she was reborn as a mermaid—a haunting, eternal figure. Her voice, as beautiful as her appearance, became her weapon. The melody she sings, sweet and seductive, lures men to their doom, pulling them under the river's surface like moths to a flame.
