This macOS/Windows executable arises from the artist's continual research into the development and implications of computational perceptual systems. The work's structure, in which a composite image is created by overlapping a pair of animals and objects in varying opacities, draws from a technique used by researchers to trick computers into thinking they were seeing a completely novel, unseen image. The categories and images themselves follow the methodology of ImageNet, a public database of images widely used in image recognition. As described by curator Melanie Bühler in a text for _Mousse Magazine_, “The creations are stunning in their bluntness; crudely merging two pictures is apparently all it takes to trick a computer into thinking it’s seeing something it has never seen before. These images, and the catalog that specifies and quantifies their amalgamation, possess a rare quality: they are haunting and fundamentally stupid, weirdly specific and completely detached.” In a past exhibition, the work has been shown as floating, apparition-like sequences of impossible figures projected in two loops onto scrims of sheer fabric in a dark, labyrinthine space.
