_Human Abecedary_ (2024) is a generative alphabet that takes the standard pool of Latin letters and systematically abstracts them by cutting them up and swapping their parts around. This process reorients familiar components, namely recognizable letters, and mutates them indefinitely to appear “foreign,” solely by rearranging them. The work calls to mind fictional languages and asemic writing systems that have no national identity—an algorithmic way to estrange the alphabet from itself. The series made for Feral File focuses on an expanding, cumulative pool of letters, beginning with permutations between the first two letters (A and B) and ending with the entire alphabet. Each edition iterates through twenty-four cycles, generating hundreds of mutated, semi-legible hybrid glyphs.
