🌿 WHAT HAPPENED TO MY OTHER HALF! Relax Kiwano, this happens to many in the FMC, as we're always intrigued to see the inside of any fruit or veggie. So unfortunately, this kiwano jelly melon's history is sketchy, at best. We do know that jelly melon, often known as African horned cucumber, is native to the semi-arid climates of central and southern Africa. It continues to provide important nutrients to the local population. 🤫📜
🌿 For over 3,000 years, this horned melon has been fascinating the produce world. The spiky, golden-orange shell encases a soft, succulent, seed-filled emerald green interior. Historically the fruit has been used as a source of water in the desert, as well as to increase the nutrition level. 💦📈
🌿FRESH FACTS:
Kiwano changes color as it matures – from green to yellow to orange. When buying, make sure the fruit peel is an intense yellow-orange color and undamaged, and its thorns are firm. The fruit can be stored at room temperature for some time. If the thorns or the peel of the fruit become soft, it is a sign that it is spoiled. In this case, it should not be eaten, but rather thrown away. Its relatively high price and exotic appearance make the Kiwano the perfect exclusive ingredient for salads. 🥗🧡💚
