描述
This image of Ancient Snowball Comet Neowise was taken in the ancient Phrygian region in Anatolia. It is an old civilization that lived in Anatolia from 1200 – 700 BC. Famous Phrygian King Midas and story about his huge ears have been subject to tales for thousands of years. Comet Neowise is in orbit of the sun and it revolves around it every 6,800 years. Perhaps the ancient people of Phrygia observed the comet the last time it circled our sun. What would they have thought and felt back when they lived? Did they wonder what they were seeing in the sky? Imagine standing in their territory, watching a visitor from an outer solar system that comes to our inner solar system only every 6800 years. Comets are residual material from formation of our own solar system that took place nearly 4.5 billion years ago. They are cosmic snowballs of frozen gasses, rock, and dust that may be long-period (more than 200 years orbit around the sun) or short-period (less than 200 years) according to which part of the solar system they come from. While long-period comets obviously travel from outer regions of our own solar system (Oort Cloud), short-period ones travel from outside Neptune's orbit (Kuiper Belt). In this image of Comet Neowise two tails can easily be seen; the whitish dust tail which is the melted ice and dust from the core of the comet while the thinner bluish tail is the material within the comet ionized by the radiation from the Sun. For this image, I scouted the location earlier. The place is called Avdalaz Castle/Church which is a multi-storey and multi-chamber cistern rock mass carved into tuff rock and was built during the Byzantine era. I saw this rock and I realized the comet would be directly on top of the rock before the comet would set. I set up my equipment and waited for the comet to be visible. After a few trials, I found the right composition and settings, and I started shooting.   The rest, as they say, is history. In this case, very ancient history.
