I remember one Christmas when heavy snowflakes blanketed the world outside. It was a moment filled with warmth and love as the family gathered together in one place. The living room echoed with joyful laughter as my nephews played games and we all indulged in old memories and dessert ice cream. The warmth we shared that night while eating cold ice cream and exchanging small gifts remain an enduring memory in each of our hearts. On that day, Christmas became synonymous with a special family bond. [KangCar] For Minseok Kang (aka KangCar), nothing goes to waste. As a mixed-media artist based in Seoul, S. Korea, he squeezes every bit he can out of his creative process, even going so far as to save paper trimmings, paint drippings, and canvas clippings for later use. When he has enough, these scraps are then meticulously crafted into ice cream cone sculptures that seem to positively drip with the “leftover” juices of his previous works- which is mainly related to cars. Although KangCar’s ice cream cone series is a direct byproduct of this process, they represent leisure and slow enjoyment, an irony that is not lost on an artist who gets his pseudonym from objects that go fast. Rendered and digitized forever into NFT format, KangCar’s ice cream cones will never melt, and remind us to take a second to enjoy the sweetness of life, which won’t last forever.
