"And he said unto me, it is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the water of life freely." Revelation 21:6. Nyx is the goddess of the night in Greek mythology. She is one of the primordial gods who emerged at the dawn of creation. She is the daughter of Chaos, the god who created time. She is similar to Nut, Egyptian goddess of the night and dark skies. Both goddesses were seen as personifications of vast, primordial elements that were intangible and inaccessible for the everyday humans (the night sky and the vast space). Nut was often mentioned in Egyptian funerary texts. She would protect and give safe passage through the stars to the deceased pharaoh. I love this hymn written to Nut on the sarcophagus of the Egyptian Queen Hatschepsut (1458 BC): "Oh Mother Nut, I shall breathe the sweet breath that comes out of your mouth, and behold your beauty daily. Stretch yourself over me, that you might place me among the indestructible stars which are in you, and I will not perish again."
