"I am the star that rises from the sea — the twilight sea. I bring men dreams that rule their destiny." The Sea Priestess. This card is a reference to the book The Sea Priestess by Dion Fortune. The author (1890–1946, birth name Violet Firth) was one of the most influential figures in the birth of modern witchcraft (and she lived a full and colorful life!), with her most well-known book being The Sea Priestess (1938). The book is a story about Vivian le Fay Morgan, who is a sea priestess from Atlantis. It reads like a fantasy book with a love story, but Dion Fortune merged it with symbolism, mystical concepts, and esoteric poems. The main concept of the book is the cycle of the moon, here incarnated in the body of our hero Vivian le Fay Morgan. The book suggests that women's bodily cycles reflect the ones of the moon, bringing tides of creation, destruction, and regeneration. "I am the star that rises from the sea — the twilight sea. I bring men dreams that rule their destiny. I bring the dream-tides to the souls of men; the tides that ebb and flow and ebb again — these are my secret, these belong to me — I am the eternal woman; I am she! The tides of all men’s souls belong to me. The tides that ebb and flow and ebb again; the silent, inward tides that govern men — these are my secret; these belong to me." —The Sea Priestess, page 225 Card: Listening to our intuition.
