描述
"To the elements it came from, everything will return. Our bodies to Earth, our blood to water, heat to fire, breath to air." Empedocles. The Morrigan is one of the well-known Celtic goddesses. Also called the "Triple Goddess," she is the goddess of war. According to the folk legend in the book The Ancient Irish Goddess of War, she was able to predict the death of warriors in battle and would deliver her message to them by appearing as three birds. Since she was able to predict death, she was also seen as a goddess of prophecy and fate. In ancient time, most goddesses of war were also goddesses of fate (e.g., the Morrigan, the Norse Valkyries, and Neith in Egypt). The outcome of war — who would die and who would live — was difficult to predict (contrary to dying of old age) and thus was thought to be controlled by the fate goddess. Below is one of the Morrigan's peace prophecies from Irish folklore: "Sky to earth, earth below sky, strength in each one, a cup overfull, filled with honey, sufficiency of renown. Summer in winter, spears supported by warriors, warriors supported by forts. (..)" The story goes on about how the Morrigan foresaw the battle to come, the lives lost, and the borders shifting. Card: Endings are coming. They may be difficult to accept, but they are necessary.
