The Meili Snow Mountains: Kawagebo Peak is Yunnan's highest and most sacred. Though attempts have been made, it has never been successfully climbed and many have died trying. And since 2001, a law was passed banning any future attempts on cultural and religious grounds. Tibetans believe disaster will follow if humans set foot on its peak.
