"The Man in Black"
Day #22/366
Dlawr: Photo a Day 2024
When I was in college I wanted to be an English Major. I had a creative writing teacher who took us to see the play "Red". It was a story about Rothko and it blew my mind. Ever since that, I have been obsessed with his work.
That same teacher also told us about how he needed a job, faked his certificate for teaching, and started teaching at a local school where he lived. He did a great job, but the school eventually found out that he didn't have a degree. However, they liked him and somehow allowed him to go to school while he continued teaching. Eventually, he finished and continued to work as a college professor.
This has nothing to do with Rothko, but it's something I will NEVER forget. Shoot for the stars I guess?
Anyways, we saw the Rothko exhibit at the Louis Vuitton Foundation today in Paris. It was our last full day in the city and one of the best decisions we could have made. I loved seeing the artwork and the building that housed the museum was absolutely awe-inspiring. It was unlike anything I've ever seen. I also enjoyed my girlfriend laughing about how oddly simple most of Rothko's work is. Its really funny how something so simple can be so famous and powerful.
