During the preflight check for our helicopter ride, the pilot turned to me and said: “If that lens cap falls out of the window and hits the tail rotor, we’re probably all going to die” I had never been in a helicopter before, and hearing that certainly didn’t help my already heightened anxiety.
Once I got in the air and over downtown, I remember feeling like I was experiencing a city I've lived in my whole life for the first time, and all the anxiety I had at the time completely vanished. Every moment and angle felt new and interesting, and I did my best to capture as much as I could with my camera. I remember getting so caught up in the excitement, I filled up a 64GB card in the first 10 minutes of the flight.
This image was one that stood out the most, because its wide angle perspective and straight down view of the city almost gives the viewer a sense of vertigo. I love aerial photos like this because initially they look familiar, your mind tries to make sense of it’s familiarity, but it always takes a moment to figure out exactly where or what you’re looking at.
