Is each moment connected to the next?
Did you know that if you zoom in smaller and smaller, there's a unit of measurement called the Planck length, and that it's the smallest scale at which the laws of physics make any sense? And did you also know that there's a corresponding unit of time called Planck time (5.391 x 10^-44 seconds, which is the time it takes light in a vacuum to travel the Planck length), and that it's the smallest time increment? This effectively means that our entire universe and existence, in both space and time, is discrete.
I don't like it.
The idea of a world that is constructed on its deepest levels out of some cosmic equivalent of "pixels" is one that I bristle against. I love the idea of a smooth flow of space and time, of each moment bumping up infinitesimally against the next. I want our universe to be continuous, even if measurements show that it isn't. Maybe I'm a hopeless romantic, or maybe I want the sand in my own hourglass to last that much longer if I pay attention.
