For many years I had been proud of myself for being “above” my animal instincts. Raised as a conservative Christian, I was denied any connection with the primal side of myself. Upon leaving organized religion, I have been embracing and celebrating my instincts as a precious gift. As society moves further away from a natural way of life and our evolutionary instincts, we lose the primordial, the most ancient and inherently wise part of us. Healthy relationships with our instincts can protect and help us, now I welcome a deeper connection with it.
