When I was young, I remember seeing a painting of a young woman, alone in the stormy sea, face to face with a crocodile floating on the gentle waves.
I don’t remember the artist, or where I saw the image, but the work has stayed with me ever since. The sense of terror met with calm. Life and death held by the water in that moment.
This image is my retelling of that story, of a girl and her crocodile, connected by the water, perhaps one turning into the other when they die…
