The School of Pixels: Class of '69 commemorates PunkCast's publication of 69 amazing personal Punk stories about art, culture, technology, and Punk love. The School of Pixels is based on the masterpiece "The School of Athens" by Raphael (c. 1509), but with the intent of carrying over the deep and meaningful undertones of the original and overlaying the light, curious, and playful nature of the present Cryptopunk collection and community.
Themes consistent throughout the 69 PunkCast interviews revealed that, despite diverse backgrounds and expertise, all Punks share fundamental values of what it means to be a highly coveted Cryptopunk. We felt compelled to document this vibe in time, capturing a similar feeling that we are on the precipice of a new Renaissance: where online digital nations and communities exist without the friction and social judgment of sexual preference, age, sex, gender, wealth, race, or religion. Punks are generally instilled with counterculture punk values, primarily being bold, rebellious, deeply curious, and passionate about building a better tomorrow.
PunkCast commissioned German artist polygonyogurt, a 3D artist and designer who previously studied under high-profile digital artist Mike Winkleman, also known as "Beeple". polygonyogurt currently works as a creative director and has a deep interest in recreating old master paintings with a modern twist.
We hope that these PunkCast stories will continue to survive alongside our Cryptopunks long after we're gone and that, just maybe, we have inspired something special for generations to come. We’re not done yet - we’ve got more stories to tell!
