Painting Altar #22 is a photograph by artist Veronica Bruce Woodward taken in her art studio on the desk, or "altar," in which she creates her physical works. The image is composed of: the backside of a painting from earlier in her career with oil paint brush marks (right), a portion of an oil painting (left) from around 2012, a scrap of wood in her studio from building a partition wall, and a finished work, "Stabilize 3." This piece is made of multiple strips of paintings on canvas from many years, metal grommets, and spray painted staples on panel. She created this work in 2021 and it is 12 in by 9 in. Veronica began creating the Painting Altar photographs in November 2021 to release as NFTs as separate, but intertwined works to her physical paintings/objects. These images pay reference to the act of composing, making, and playing with attention to balance.
