King Gary - 1st Edition Base Set Limited Edition Gary was not always King Pokémon... born in the 1950s Hollywood, California he cut his collectible teeth on bottle caps and comic books…even then he kept his treasures and the memories close. In the years that followed, his heart took him many places, but his collectibles never left his side. Gary loved them all and became drawn to their ability to stimulate his imagination…many he still has today. In 1999, Pokémon’s English beginning, Gary would watch his son hold on to his favourite Charizard card deep into his sleep...only to wake up in the morning with that beloved card still firmly in his grasp. This made Gary’s own memories and emotions come flooding back from when he was 8 years old…. typical of a true collector, he assumed his son’s passion for Pokémon. It did not stop there! Through all the hobby’s ups and downs, Gary did all he could to keep it alive. He knew that Pokémon was something special and unique and the bonds that were created between parents and their kids, as well as between friends were stronger than anything he had seen before. Pokémon was a phenomenon that danced in all our thoughts and dreams. Now that the hobby was safe and had become the #1 media franchise in the history of the world, Gary felt he wasn’t needed anymore. A little too old to be a Pokémon master... but then his daughter was diagnosed with autism. Gary remembered reading many years ago that Pokémon’s founder, Satoshi Tajiri, was autistic too. Tajiri’s autistic traits as a child led him to focus deeply on bugs and critters which led to him creating a whole new world...Pokémon. Gary loves to say, “Without autism, there would be no Pokémon”. This gave Gary a new purpose, helping to provide treatments to autistic kids and training for when they become adults. He teamed up with his friend Steve Aoki and his charity the Aoki Foundation. Together in 2020 they raised a record amount and hope to do the same this year...with your help. It is not easy to sum up anything when it comes to King Pokémon, because just when you do, he’s off accomplishing more!! Let’s just call this a new beginning… If there is ever a Pokémon Hall of Fame, certainly Satoshi Tajiri would be the first inductee. A lot could be said though, including all of our support, that Gary would follow him in...
