Formed from the chaotic interactions of three blazing suns, the Giant Squid Nebula dominates over 50 light years of interstellar space. Composed mostly of doubly-ionized oxygen gas, the squid glows with a luminous blue plasma. And encircling the ponderous beast, ionized hydrogen gas burns bright red, an ocean on fire. Since ancient days, we have found shapes and patterns in the night sky, inventing stories of adventure, bravery, and terror. While those early astronomers mapped the stars, it is my joy and honor to explore the strange and wonderful spaces between.
