Believe it or not, dense spruce tree forests are hard to come by in Arctic Norway. While it carpets most of Swedish and Finnish Lapland, you need to hike deep into the interior to find this realm of cold and mist. As it depicts the coldest and darkest of the nine Norse realms, it is also northern Norway’s coldest place. By a chilly -35°C, I stopped my snow-shoeing hike at a small glade to capture this impromptu corona developing in the bright moonlight. See how the aurora casts mystical green shadows on the forest floor?
