Coastal Brake was an homage to the landscapes of my new home in San Francisco and a goodbye to the valley I had called home almost my entire life. I had been experimenting a lot with more driven, higher tempo arrangements and this felt like the logical extreme for me. It was also the song that crystallized the densely layered soundscapes that would come to define much of my work to come.
