In October of 2020 I raced to the intersection of 42nd Ave. and International Blvd after hearing the clatter of helicopter blades, the screeching of tires and the dense smell of burning rubber. I brought my Nikon F2 and a roll of Ilford HP5 and captured a very unique scene. One of the first sideshows to erupt since the onset of COVID-19... The crowd was both tense and exuberant as the masses gathered to witness one of the town's favorite past-times amidst a disease that was still very much enigmatic and frightening. People were crammed and masks were few and far between, but there was genuine joy in the air...
