Women began to take on factory jobs that men left for, or avoided altogether. They also began working in mills and textile factories, mines and on construction sites. Although many women worked throughout history, progress has been slow for women in the labor market.
As women entered the labor market, they found that discrimination against them was still rampant. Employers often refused to hire women as they saw them as inferior to men. They also believed that women would not be able to handle certain tasks as well as men. Women's jobs were lower paid than men and would often be unsafe too.
Gender equality in the workplace is far from reality.
