Matthew "Matty" McIntyre, played professionally from 1901 to 1912. The 5'11", 175lb. McIntyre primarily played left field as well as threw lefty and batted lefty. The Connecticut-born player helped Detroit win three pennants from 1907 - 1909. His best season was in 1908 when he lead the League in plate appearances (672), singles (131), times on base (258), and runs (105). McIntyre batted lead-off in front of both Cobb and Crawford (the other two outfielders). It was also publicly-known and well documented that McIntyre, a Connecticut-Yankee, had a longstanding feud with his Georgia-born counterpart in centerfield, Cobb. This lasted until McIntyre was sold to Chicago after the 1910 season. McIntyre died just 10 years later in 1920 at the age of 39.
