Terry O’Neill is one of the most collected photographers in the world - his work hangs in national art galleries and private collections worldwide. O’Neill photographed the frontline of fame for over six decades. Beginning his career at the birth of the 1960’s and continuing until his death, Terry O’Neill bore witness to some of our planet’s biggest icons. Photographing the Beatles and The Rolling Stones as small, struggling bands, and capturing Iconic figures such as Winston Churchill or Queen Elizabeth — Terry O’Neill is a defining photographer of our lifetime.
This original Iconic “Bond on the Moon” photo was taken on the set of “Diamond Are Forever,” when news hit that astronaut Alan Shepherd had ended a historic moonwalk by launching a few golf balls at Mars with his 8 iron. O’Neill knew that Sean Connery, a keen golfer, always had his clubs with him, so they decided to recreate the shot on the perfect moonscape they already had set for the film. Now, we’re releasing this unique image in a totally new way.
Terry O’Neill’s digital artist has reverse engineered what a color photograph would look like on the moon if the human eye could “see” the entire spectrum of colors and lights traveling through space. They accessed NASA’s database of space photography to develop a palette of colors that can be detected in space via spectrometer. Varying quantities of light and color, including UV and gamma rays, produce a perspective alien and invisible to the human eye. This multiplicity of color allows for an entirely new experience of this legendary photo.
